It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's A Photo-Op...?

I wonder if we can somehow blame this on George Bush.

But, really, the "photo op" had to be ridiculously scary to see from below. I was one of those World Trade Center evacuees watching the United Airline's plane crash into the south tower from the base of the building. It's a sight I'll never forget and I can completely understand the panic on the street.

Total incompetence all the way around on this one. Who will be the sacrificial lamb on this one, if any?

Maybe Louis Caldera, director of the White House Military Office?

"Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take responsibility for that decision. While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, it's clear that the mission created confusion and disruption. I apologize and take responsibility for any distress that flight caused."

The mayor says he wasn't told. The NYPD was informed about the exercise but told it was classified and not for public consumption.
