The Globe Gone?

As reported by its competitor, the Boston Globe is under fire from its parent company.

The New York Times [NYT] Company has threatened to shut down the Boston Globe if the paper doesn’t come up with $20 million in cuts within 30 days in a dramatic act of brinksmanship at the beleaguered broadsheet.

Like many other newspapers, the Globe has been in decline for years.

The sports section, once the most respected in the business, featured, at different times: Peter Gammons, Will McDonough, Bob Ryan, Bud Collins, Leigh Montville, Jackie MacMullan, Ron Borges, Gordon Edes, Lesley Visser and Peter May.

The editorial page is hard left: conservative Herald columnist Michael Graham refers to the newspaper as the Boston Globe-Democrat.

Boston Globe editor, Martin Baron, recently spoke of the current crisis at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication.
